UPDATED: One Dead, Several Injured in UNILORIN Campus Bus Accident - Management
The University of Ilorin management has confirmed a motor accident on campus, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.
According to a press statement signed by Kunle Akogun, Director, Corporate Affairs, on behalf of the university management, the accident occurred on July 18, 2024, involving a commercial bus conveying ten passengers leaving the campus.
"Rescue operations were promptly initiated by the university management, and all victims were rushed to the University Health Centre for medical attention. One victim required advanced treatment and was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) after initial stabilization. Four victims with minor injuries were treated and discharged, while five others, including two males, two females, and the driver, are currently receiving treatment at the University Health Centre."
"Sadly, one victim was pronounced dead upon arrival, and the body has been transferred to the morgue. The university management is working to contact the next of kin. The management expressed regret over the incident, offering condolences to the family of the deceased and praying for a speedy recovery of the injured victims" he said.
