You Left APC Too Late, Gobir Mocks SDP, NNPP, Others

By Adedayo Said

Young Progressives Congress, YPP, Kwara State governorship candidate, Waziri Yakubu Gobir, says that recent defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, into other opposition parties in the state have merely shut the stable doors after the horses have bolted, urging that there is still room in YPP for all to work together.

According to the Madawaki of Ilorin and Waziri of Hausaland, the parties where they now seek expression doesn't have the structures YPP has managed to set up in the last three year.

Gobir made this statement on Saturday in Adeta, Ilorin, in continuation of his thank you visits to stakeholders in the various political blocks in the state capital.

Adeta is situated in Ilorin West and reputed to be one of the biggest voting blocks in Kwara Central.

"From ward to state chapter level, we have people already positioned and ready.

"We have a massive voter base across all the 2, 887 polling units in the state.

"I have been painstaking in my own preparations to the extent that I know those who will be voting in my on ward," said Gobir,

The governorship candidate added that 2023 is going to be entirely different from what obtained in 2019, adding that it won't be on party recognition basis.

"It is going to be about individuals and every one will answer to his father's name.

"The voters know us by reputation; those who are honest, those who have a sense of gratitude would not betray trust in office; the know who to vote for.

"This was why, early enough, we left APC when we saw that it's a sinking ship.

"But I recall warning our fellow Otoge campatriots to leave while they can but was largely ignored.

"I hope that they can all see that APC is a dead horse and that there is no need flogging it," Gobir said.

As at the last count, major tendencies in the 'Otoge' coalition that won the 2019 election have factionalised, each pitiching tents in Social Democratic Party, SDP, New Nigerian People's Party, NNPP and People's Democratic Party, PDP.
