13 Die In Road Accident In Kwara

No fewer than thirteen (13) persons had lost their lives in two separate accidents that occurred along the Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa highway in Moro Local Government area of Kwara state.

The accident which involved two 18-seater hiace buses that were enroute Lagos and Sokoto states with 11 passengers losing their lives in the first bus and 2 passengers in the second bus while 8 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries.

According to an eyewitness, a vehicle coming from Lagos rammed into a stationary heavy duty truck while the second bus veered off the road on its way from the north while the driver was trying to manoeuvre his way due to impact of the earlier accident.

The Kwara State Sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gbenga Owoade, on his part while addressing newsmen attributed the road crashes to carelessness on the part of the two drivers.

The Sector Commander admonished drivers to avoid night journeys, overloading and the consumption of alcohol alongside other intoxicating substances while driving. He noted that the Federal Road Safety Corps had recorded 136 deaths along Jebba road between January to September.
