Kwara Assembly Frowns At Relocation Of Ministry, Agencies To School Of Midwifery

The Kwara State House of Assembly, has called on the state government to reconsider the relocation of its
Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Bureau of Land and Urban Regional Development Authority, to the School of Midwifery and to find alternative suitable place.

The Resolutions of the legislature, was sequel to an urgent Motion on "The Need to Halt Movement of Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Bureau of Land and other related agencies from their current location", sponsored by member representing Ilorin North West Constituency, Hon. Abdul Rafiu Abdul Rahman.

The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, while reading the resolutions of the House, noted with displeasure that the relocation exercise negated the efforts of government, international donor agencies, NGOs like Wellbeing Foundation Africa towards addressing infant mortality rate in the State.

The House equally directed its Committee on Finance and Appropriation, as well as Land and Housing to invite the State Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries of the State Ministries of Planning and Economic Development as well as Finance, to explain how the relocation exercise would be funded, giving the fact that it was not captured in the 2018 Appropriation Law.

The Parliament according to the Speaker, also mandated the Committees to invite the affected Ministry and Agencies to convince the legislature on the sanctity of land documents in the state.

Hon. Abdul Rafiu Abdul Rahman had while raising the Motion, said the State School of Midwifery established several years ago had assisted greatly in ensuring safe child delivery of women in the state and urged the legislature to wade in, to salvage the institution from the verge of extinction.

Other members who spoke on the Motion, described the planned relocation exercise as absorb, unjustifiable and misplacement of priority and urged the House to wade in urgently to salvage the critical sub-health sector from its present predicament.
